Okay, so the name needs some work. But the the pizza is good stuff! This place is located in the Granville Public Market in Vancouver. The market itself is amazing. Great produce, lots of meat, seafood, sausages, and cheese. But hey, this is about the pizza.

This place makes their own dough. I saw the guy in the back measuring the ingredients. So I know. Trust me. Anyway, the crust on this slice is not really a thin crust, but is not that Chicago crap. It’s almost like a focaccia in texture. And it tastes good. The sauce is a tomato-creme-pesto sauce. Yeah, this might sound weird, but lemme tell you, it tastes good. And it’s got enough cheese on it. And tasty cheese too.

So, do yourself a favor. If you’re in Vancouver, hit the public market. And while you’re there, grab a slice of this stuff. You will be glad you did.

If you were walking down Granville street in Vancouver BC and saw a sign that said “Giant Pizza Slice $1.12″ what would you do? I tell you what I would do! Gimme that slice!

Well…it’s worth maybe $1.12 if you do the conversion to USA money…only 95 cents! So, the crust is made of whole wheat flour. Weird. This does not taste like pizza crust. And the sauce is a creamy pesto. No tomato to be seen. And there is almost no cheese on here.

Oh well, it was worth a try. There are a LOT of other cheap pizza joints along Granville. I didn’t try them. This was enough cheap pizza for one day.

Hey hey! Your roving pizza reporter coming to you live from San Francisco!

With a name like Escape From New York, you would think you were in for a special treat. I mean, if you were a pizza chef, and you had to escape from New York, what would you take with you? Your secret pizza recipie, of course!

However, I have a feeling that there was no escaping going on. Yeah, this is New York style pizza, thin crust, usually pretty crispy, but there’s just that certain something missing. The sauce doesn’t quite make the grade, and the cheese is just not quite right.

Now, usually, I would just tell you about the cheese slice. I mean, that’s what pizza is all about, right? But this is my web site, and I can break the rules. These guys make a killer potato-pesto slice. The crust is still not quite right, but the pesto sauce is really good. And they put roasted garlic cloves — whole cloves — and potato slices on there. This is the slice I like from Escape From NY.

Overall, this is maybe 3 and a half slices. But I don’t have a 3.5 slice graphic, and it is really not up to four slices, so I have to give it a 3.

This is hardly pizza. It is pizza shaped, true. But not pizza. What little sauce they put on this stuff has no flavor. You’d find more cheese at a vegan convention. And the crust is nasty, flavorless cardboard.
